In the USA we have a beautiful tradition of coming together to give thanks on the fourth Thursday of November. I’m in awe. I think focusing three-hundred-million-plus people’s awareness on gratitude for a day is amazing. I’m grateful that we do it, no matter the origin. The fact that many people focus more on the food, football, or Friday sales doesn't bother me. It's a challenge and chance for our culture to grow.
Sharing gratitude can be vulnerable. It defies postmodern currents of cynicism and risks seeming insensitive to the suffering of others. Let’s risk it. Let's pierce the veil of social consciousness to continuously stand in the naked innocence of gratitude over and over again today.
