Gardeners of the Future 🧑‍🌾

I’m reminded of Chapter 29 of the Tao Te Ching, “Do you think you can take over the universe and improve it? I do not believe it can be done. The universe is sacred. You cannot improve it. If you try to change it, you will ruin it. If you try to hold it, you will lose it”.

I take this to mean that we take actions that look like saving the world but we approach them from a different attitude, just like we approach personal transformation from a different attitude in relatefulness. Rather than "heal and grow at all costs!" we witness and "be with" from a place of love. We’re active in creating the future like gardeners are in helping tomatoes produce their best fruit: Watering, pruning, fertilizing and protecting, so that nature can do what it was already planning to do with or without us.

I’m reminded of Suzanne Cook-Greuter describing the Unitive Ego Development stage (indigo/coral):

They respect the essence in others and therefore do not need them to be different than they are […] Unitive thinkers also accept themselves “as is” in a non-controlling way […] Rather than passivity, the non-attached, impersonal stance allows for greater and more direct and powerful action where action is needed”.

With love, Jordan
