Choosing Our “Problems” like Rock Climbing Routes 🧗♂️
Dec 08, 2022
I’m a rock climber, and we call the routes we climb up “problems”. They’re fun. I look forward to finding new, sometimes harder problems to test myself and grow. This is one of the ways we can see the influence of our past, our distant past, and even our culture: Fun problems; knots to untie; keepers of the potential for growth.
In climbing sometimes people get mad at the wall, just like we sometimes get mad at our life conditions. But climbers, knowing that we’re choosing the experience, will end up appreciating the very route that’s frustrating us for the very qualities that are frustrating. We can make this choice in relationship with our life conditions too. We can choose to choose our experience, claiming the power of meaning over things that were totally outside of our control. If the power of meaning doesn’t seem compelling, check out Viktor Frankl’s Logotherapy.
With love, Jordan
