Contextual Transactional Analysis by James M. Sedgwick 📖
Jan 26, 2023
I highly recommend this book if you're into theories of therapy and are down for a slower, academic read. Sedgwick proposes and maintains a rare post-autonomous perspective; that what we are is always changing, co-creative, inseparably self-and-world. Highly relateful.
From this perspective, he builds out understanding and language for the “world/context” side of who-and-what we are. He also challenges some common therapeutic assumptions that stem from assuming a self that exists independent of context (like an idea that a therapist shouldn’t intervene). Refreshingly, he manages to do all of this while honoring that there are relative better and worse ways to do things. (He actively points out many performative contradictions of Green in his own unique language).
With love, Jordan
