The Litany of Gendlin

What is true is already so.
Owning up to it doesn't make it worse.
Not being open about it doesn't make it go away.
And because it's true, it is what is there to be interacted with.
Anything untrue isn't there to be lived.
People can stand what is true,
for they are already enduring it.

If we really need to deal with it, we won’t be able to avoid it forever. Things that need to be known by us will find a way into our experience until they’re unavoidable. I guess some people call this karma.

But we can avoid stuff for a really long time… and the longer we wait, the more it tends to hurt. Like the longer you wait cleaning up a mess, the harder it is to clean. Or the longer you wait to work out, the harder it is.

But even here there’s a balance. If you’re always cleaning, it’s hard to have fun.

Sorry / not sorry; even with a litany there’s nowhere to rest, no answers that will save us from being out of balance, overcorrecting, being unfinished; there’s no one that has the secret cure. Counterbalance even there… that imperfection, that longing for unfindable answers is the perfection of the orgasmic culmination of the whole universe’s history showing up right here and now in it's unavoidable immensity.

Also, that we can’t avoid can be a great thing—I can’t avoid loving, even when sometimes I try. ❤️

With love, Jordan
