Sarah McCrum, Love Money, Money Loves You 🤑
Dec 21, 2023
Sarah McCrum is best known as the author of Love Money, Money Loves You: A Conversation With The Energy Of Money, a book I loved but have held off on recommending bc it has got to represent some of the woo-est seeming ideas I’ve ever put on this Three Things Thursday (yes, I realize that’s a high bar). I think I’d be remiss keeping it to myself, but what I really want to turn you on to is McCrum’s whole body of work.
Since reading at the beginning of this year, I’ve been skeptically following Sarah McCrum through related podcast interviews (eg: check out this recent one on spotify / youtube) and I am consistently impressed with her grounded, calm, direct, and sincere approach. She embodies her message of bringing love into our relationship with money, without glorifying having any particular amount of money. She promotes the importance of relaxation, building a life you love, being a part of a larger purpose, and I love that her work goes beyond personal mindset shifts to systemic changes: She’s on a team that created an entirely new financial instrument to value living ecosystems more than dead ones (via Love To which does stuff like Bright Greens tokens). Many people talk a big game about changing how and what we value economically, but it’s rare to see someone put in the hard work to build a realistic bridge for that change.
As usual, you don’t have to buy into the premise to get value from her ideas or appreciate the novelty of the presentation. (I mean I find deep spiritual lessons in kids books and Disney movies, so I’m clearly not too picky). It’s safe to say all of us picked up strange beliefs around money that could use a good mirror for cleaning up. I think Sarah’s work acts as a fantastic mirror.
With love, Jordan
