Spirit of welcoming newbs to Relatefulness 🤗
Nov 24, 2022
Recently I heard a story about an Austin woman traveling in some Nordic country who showed up to her first Circling event. She got totally shutout and I really didn’t like that spirit. I want our global ecosystem to have a different attitude toward newbies. I’m sure the local leader was practicing boundaries or something important to their growth but it doesn’t have to cost kindness. Let’s take inspiration from the vibe of rock climbers, who tend to be super welcoming to first timers, without being overbearing, evangelical, or self-sacrificial.
The climbing spirit is something like, “Welcome to this cool thing! Let me know if you want any tips, otherwise I’ll cheer you on but do my own thing. It doesn’t really affect me if you like it or not, but if you do end up liking it, we can climb together more. Finally, if you’re about to put yourself or someone else in danger, I’ll stop you".
WIth love, Jordan
