Book Recommendation: Four Thousand Weeks 📒
Jul 27, 2023
Four Thousand Weeks by Oliver Berkman is an excellent book about presence, wholeheartedly embracing imperfection, unfinishedness, making decisions, and death—in order to have a more fulfilling life. It is also well written. Berkman even manages to weave in topics dear to my heart like parenting philosophy and social media’s attention algorithms. Here’s a taste:
- “You don’t get to dictate the course of events. And the paradoxical reward for accepting reality’s constraints is that they no longer feel so constraining”
- “Once you stop believing that it might somehow be possible to avoid hard choices about time, it gets easier to make better ones”
- “The struggle for certainty is an intrinsically hopeless one—which means you have permission to stop engaging in it”
(Thanks to Michelle for the recommendation!)
With love, Jordan
