A big part of presence is seeing what we’ve turned away from and saying, “This I can also include”. But freedom means I don’t have to include it. And freedom means I don’t have to avoid it.
Sometimes we have to move through counter-dependence—when we think freedom means opposition—to know we’re sovereign. Let’s be gentle with ourselves and others as we do this, but let’s not confuse it with maturity or pretend it’s more enlightened.
