Micro-transformation: Moment of nothing ☁️
Sep 21, 2023
I like to do this thing sometimes when I’m journaling, or waiting in a line at a coffeeshop, or have a few minutes in between calls, that might be called doing nothing. “Doing” is already the wrong word, since there’s not really a doing, so much as not-doing anything. It’s kind of like relaxing the contracted muscles in the cold plunge—I notice the impulse to check my phone, or think about something, or make a plan what I’m going to do, or check off an item on my to-do list. Then I relax that impulse and do nothing. There’s almost a “drifting off” sense to it, except that sensory experience tends to increase in vibrancy and salience even as it loses its organizing meaning structures.
Anyway, you might want to try doing this. It’s pretty refreshing.
With love, Jordan
